A week in Panama on a points run! Day 6 - Westin Playa Bonita

The next morning I woke up early, had coffee in the room, and then headed down to the gym for a morning workout.  There are not many weight machines, but enough free wieghts and cardio equipment.  After a shower I went up to the Club Lounge for a great breakfast with an amazing view out over the ocean.  There is a large outdoor terrace but already at 9:00 am it was very warm outside.

The next few hours I spent working on my sunburn at the various pools.  The beach is very nice though not too large, with plenty of shells to see along with some crabs and a great deal of different birds from the nearby jungle.  Amazingly no mosquitoes.  The hotel has complimentary spray and repellent wipes set out all over, in your room, on tables, in the gym, but none of this was necessary thankfully so the Zika fears and warnings for me at least were a happy non-issue.  There was a group from a US Insurance Company staying at the hotel, but they stayed busy for most of the daytime hours with meetings but they did stop by the pool for a little while later in the day.  I also met a US military group who were permanently stationed in Panama for 3 year terms working on fighting forest fires.  I had no idea the US kept troops down in the area, but there was a military base of some type just beyond the hotel.  Apparently it was a coveted post especially for those without families since they were not able to join in Panama.

We did have a warning again to stay out of the water that day, so the ocean kayaks on hand were still not to be used, as a result of the terrible nearby Ecuador earthquake and the potential for a tsunami.  The tide was apparently more active then normal but nothing too noticeable, by the following day the warning had been lifted.  Even though I had sunscreen on and reapplied twice I still managed a bit of a burn so I went back to the gym earlier then I had planned.  The various pools including a kids pool, plus swim up pool bar were all nice, and the fact that there was a private SPG Gold and Platinum pool with water jugs out and some more service was all great, but it was so quiet during the day there was really no need to worry about space at all.

I managed a short cardio workout before dinner in the Club Lounge and plenty of work to catch up on that night. The lobby bar was actually busy that night with the military and insurance groups converging, and I was tempted to join in but I had to focus on work, having accomplished little at the pool.
